Privacy Policy

Phasewell · Last updated: October 22, 2026

Phasewell is a diary for your cycle. What you write in it is deeply personal, so the app is built to keep your entries with you.

In short

1. Who is responsible

Sunay Yetim

Germany
Email: hallo@phasewell.de

2. Your entries stay with you

To work, the app stores on your device:

This is health data. It is never sent to us or to anyone else, with one exception: the AI chat "Ask", and only if you use it and have agreed (see section 7). All insights (such as "Your cycle", the heads-up and the report) are calculated on your iPhone.

iCloud: If iCloud is on, the app syncs your entries between your devices through your private iCloud database at Apple. Only you can access it; we cannot. Apple's privacy policy applies. Without iCloud, everything stays on the device.

Deleting: You can change any day at any time. To delete everything, delete the app and, if you use iCloud, remove Phasewell's data under Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.

3. Apple Health

If you allow it, the app reads only period days from Apple Health, so you don't have to log them twice. It never writes to Health. It shares Health data in one case only: if you use the AI chat, your period days are part of the summary (see section 7). You can withdraw access in the Health app at any time.

4. Notifications

Reminders and the heads-up are scheduled on your iPhone. There is no server involved. By default, the heads-up says nothing about your cycle or health, because notifications can appear on the Lock Screen.

5. Sharing, report and export

The doctor report (PDF), the export (CSV) and the message to people close to you are created on your iPhone. They are only sent if you choose to share them in the share sheet – you decide to whom and how. We receive nothing.

6. Purchases and subscriptions

Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple's App Store. We do not receive payment details. Apple's privacy policy applies.

To check whether Premium is active, we use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA) as our processor. It processes:

No entries, no health data. The legal basis is the performance of the purchase contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Data is kept as long as needed to manage the purchase and then deleted, unless the law requires us to keep it.

7. Ask your own entries (AI chat, only with your consent)

With Premium, you can ask an AI questions about your own entries in the "Ask" tab. This is optional. Before your first question, the app explains what is sent and asks for your explicit permission. You also confirm that you are 16 or older. Without your consent, nothing is sent, and everything else in the app works as before.

What is sent with each question:

Where the data goes:

  1. To our own server (run by us, hosted by Contabo GmbH, Germany). It forwards the request, checks Premium with RevenueCat and checks the answer before it reaches you.
  2. From there to our AI service provider, which generates the answer: OpenRouter, Inc. (USA) as an intermediary that passes the request to a provider of the Claude language model by Anthropic PBC (USA). Depending on load, this is Anthropic itself or a cloud partner through which Anthropic offers the model (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure). The AI receives no ID of yours, only the content of the request.

We have set up OpenRouter to use only providers that do not store requests or use them for training. Your requests are not used to train AI. Transfers to the USA are based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

What our server stores: no chat content, no entries and no summary. It only stores:

Your IP address is processed briefly for the connection but not stored.

What stays on your device: Your chat history and the note "What Phasewell remembers" stay on your iPhone and, if you use iCloud, in your private iCloud.

AI-generated answers: Answers are generated automatically by an AI. They can be wrong. They are not medical advice, do not diagnose and give no advice on medication or doses. In a crisis, please call the crisis line shown in the app or your local emergency number (911 in the US).

Legal basis (EU): For the chat, your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a) and Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). For counting messages and for purchased messages, the performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). We have data processing agreements with our service providers.

Withdrawing consent: You can withdraw your consent at any time in Settings under "Ask". After that, nothing is sent. Withdrawing deletes your chat history and the note on your iPhone and, through iCloud, on your other devices. Processing before the withdrawal remains lawful.

8. Anonymous usage statistics (only with your consent)

If you agree during setup or in Settings, the app anonymously reports how it is used – for example which tab is opened, which exercise is started or where setup was left. We use TelemetryDeck (TelemetryDeck GmbH, Von-der-Tann-Str. 54, 86159 Augsburg, Germany) as our processor.

Sent are the event, app and iOS version, device model, language and a pseudonymous, multiply hashed identifier that cannot be traced back to you. Never sent: symptoms, ratings, period days, notes, names of medications or factors, your letter, your plan or any other free text. According to TelemetryDeck, IP addresses are not stored. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it in Settings at any time; after that, nothing is sent.

9. Wishes and questions by email

If you write to us from the app, your own mail app opens. We only receive the email if you send it there, together with your email address. We use it only to reply and delete it once your request is handled, at the latest after 12 months.

10. No other services

Apart from RevenueCat (for purchases), TelemetryDeck (only with consent) and the AI chat (only with consent, see section 7), we use no ad networks, no other analytics or tracking services and no social media plug-ins. Voice input in the chat turns your voice into text on your iPhone only; no audio is sent or stored. The spoken guidance in the exercises is built into the app.

11. Consumer health data (US)

We do not sell consumer health data and do not use it for advertising. Everything you log about your health is processed on your device and in your private iCloud, which we cannot access. The only exception is the optional AI chat: only with your consent, a summary of your entries is shared with the service providers named in section 7, solely to answer your question, and it is not stored. You can withdraw this consent at any time in Settings under "Ask". This also applies under state laws such as Washington's My Health My Data Act and Nevada SB 370.

12. Not a diagnosis

Phasewell shows what your own entries reveal. It does not diagnose and does not replace medical or psychological care. This also applies to the answers in the AI chat.

13. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your data, to object, and to withdraw consent at any time (Art. 15–21 GDPR; US state privacy laws such as the CCPA/CPRA). Since we store no data except purchase data and the chat counters, which are not linked to your identity, we can only match a request if you send us the transaction ID of your purchase. We do not have any chat content; it stays with you. Write to hallo@phasewell.de.

In the EU you can also complain to a data protection authority, for example the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA, Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany).

14. Children

Phasewell is not intended for children under 13 (in the EU: under 16) and we do not knowingly receive data from children. The AI chat is only for people aged 16 or older.

15. Changes

We update this policy when the app or the law changes. The version published at phasewell.de applies.
